What is Yoga?
"Yoga is the ability to direct and focus mental activity. With the attainment of a focused mind, the inner being establishes itself in all its reality"
Bernard Bouchard - The Essence of Yoga
Generally in the Western world we associate Yoga with the postures or Asanas. The original purpose of these postures is to enable us to eventually meditate without distraction or discomfort as our bodies will be strong enough to sit for a long period.
People who are originally attracted to the firmness and supleness that the practice can bring soon discover that by training the body to be strong firm and flexible, the mind can also become firm, strong and flexible too.
What Benefits can be Expected?
The continuous practice of Yoga brings short and long term rewards, both physically, mentally and spiritually.
Our bodies were designed to move freely and Yoga brings a sense of expansion on all levels by removing any physical discomfort, toning and strengthening muscles, lengthening the spine and balancing the nervous and endocrine systems which directly influence all the other systems of the body.
Yoga allows us to rediscover ourselves. To integrate and harmonise the body and mind. Every mental knot has a corresponding physical, muscular knot and vice versa. The aim of the Postures or Asanas is to release these knots.
